Woof n Ready Agility Club: Beginners Agility Classes

Agility training is a fantastic way to give your dog a fun, meaningful, and enriching life beyond the same walks and routines. At Woof n Ready Agility Club, we welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes, along with their humans, to experience the joys and rewards of agility.

With 8 years of experience training and competing in agility with my collie, Ziggy, I’ve seen firsthand how transformative this activity can be. Together, we’ve trained with top local clubs, competed at Grade 3 level, and now I’m completing ‘Train the Trainer’ courses with Agility 1st. Inspired by this journey, I created this beginner-friendly course so others can share in the excitement.

What is Agility Training?

Agility is an engaging activity where dogs navigate a course of obstacles, including jumps, tunnels, and contact equipment like seesaws and A-frames. It’s designed to challenge your dog’s fitness, mental sharpness, and your ability to connect and train effectively.

Benefits of Agility:
  • Appeals to your dog’s natural instincts to run, jump, and chase.
  • Enhances communication, improving your dog’s behaviour.
  • Provides great exercise for both you and your dog.
  • Strengthens your bond with your companion animal.
  • Most importantly, it’s FUN!

What to Expect

Our classes are perfect for beginners, starting with the basics to build your dog’s confidence and competence. Each session breaks down manoeuvres and obstacles into manageable steps, making learning easy and enjoyable for both you and your dog.

You’ll learn:
  • Jumping and sequencing jumps.
  • Navigating through a tyre and tunnel.
  • Tackling contact obstacles like seesaws, A-frames, and the dog walk.

Expect plenty of laughter, shared progress, and the occasional mistake—because learning together is all part of the journey.

We only advocate positive, reward-based training. This involves rewarding your dog when they exhibit the desired behaviour, so don’t forget to bring plenty of treats! We also use specific agility toys during training sessions, which can enhance your dog’s learning and enjoyment. As a club member, you’ll receive a 10% discount on products from Tugg-e-Nuff and TouchngoK9 by using an exclusive code.

“Our fortnightly agility lesson is always the highlight of our weeks! We have a reactive GSD, Brie, and wanted something to enhance our bond and most importantly have fun! Julie is very understanding of Brie’s quirks and makes sure both she and us are comfortable attending lessons, which is very much appreciated. Julie’s training style is always fun and centred around Brie and her way of learning. We have been amazed at how far we have come, both dog and handler! The skills we have learnt at agility have been beneficial in our day to day with Brie. We have much better communication and love to practice what we learn out and about. “
